Dirda on Books Holmes Question
Washington Post (reg. req.)
Pulitzer Prize winning Washington Post Book critic runs a regular live online discussion where the following question was recently posed...
"Anonymous: What are your favorite Sherlock Holmes stories?
Michael Dirda: I'm pretty traditional--The Speckled Band, The Red-Headed League, The Blue Carbuncle, The Final Problem. Of the novels: The Hound of the Baskervilles. But like most Holmesians what I most enjoy these days are the vignettes that open the stories--breakfast with Watson, those dazzling little feats of deduction, the homey coziness of Baker Street, the gaslit foggy night outside where it is always 1895. "
The full transcript is available - the Holmes question is about midway through but the whole thing is well worth perusing.
